New security solutions and products

Along with its technology partners, HP is constantly developing new ways to protect your business.

Physical security

The first level of protection is physical security. HP can help you keep your most vulnerable and valuable hardware safe from theft.

HP offers support for Kensington Locks on our entire line of business notebook PCs, thin clients, desktops and workstations to keep them, and their peripherals, safer from theft. These locks are industry standard, so you can purchase a new lock, utilise locks you may already have, or quickly and easily find replacement locks when you need them.

Data security

At the data security level, HP enables you to restrict access to electronic information to ensure that only the appropriate people are allowed access to confidential information.

New solutions at the data security level include:
HP ProtectTools Credential Manager: a graphical user interface (GUI) provides authentication for Microsoft Windows® login and single sign-on capability to automatically recall credentials for Web sites, applications and protected network resources.  Automatically protected via the HP ProtectTools Embedded Security Chip, based on the Trusted Platform Module from the Trusted Computing Group, users’ single sign-on and login information is virtually impossible to hack.  And, with the HP ProtectTools Smart Card Security Option, a required pre-boot Smart Card adds another layer of security before a notebook or desktop even powers up, preventing hackers from bypassing the simple password-only logins and smart cards like those offered by HP competitors.
HP ProtectTools for the new HP iPAQ hx2000 Pocket PC: powered by CREDANT Technologies, this out-of-the-box secure mobility solution goes beyond a simple password feature. The software encrypts all data and forces the user to key in a personal identification number (PIN).  Even stronger mobile security is provided when coupled with the new HP iPAQ hx 2000 Pocket PC , featuring an integrated biometric fingerprint reader.
60 days' free Symantec Client Security Software:  new HP notebook and desktop PCs feature a pre-installed 60-day licence for Symantec™ Client Security Software, which stops worms from spreading themselves via email, automatically eliminates entire messages and attachments generated by mass mailer worms, and scans in-memory processes for threats and terminates them if infected.

Application security

The next layer is application security, which protects all applications (including operating systems) from application-destined viruses, worms or threats that result in corruption, misuse or inaccessibility of the application.
HP ProLiant ML110 and ML350 Servers come pre-installed with the Windows® Microsoft® Small Business Server operating system, and can be loaded with the Symantec Small Business Security pack. This solution defends against viruses, spam, spyware and malicious data invasions, and is fully proven. Software updates that defend against new and emerging threats are constantly developed, and are automatically uploaded to the solution.

Network security

Following this is the network security layer, which utilises applications, such as antivirus software and software firewalls, to block incoming attacks on, and unauthorised access to, the network.
The HP ProLiant DL320 Firewall/VPN/Cache Server: the most affordable application and network security solution on the industry’s most trusted industry-standard platform. With Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration® (ISA) Server 2004 and a hardened version of Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 pre-installed, it identifies viruses that could potentially penetrate the network-level firewall and prevents them from spreading through the network. Quick and easy to set up and use, it’s tightly integrated with Microsoft applications such as Exchange, Outlook and Office SharePoint.
HP ProCurve Access Control Security: with this comprehensive, secure ProCurve network product, unauthorised users can no longer gain access to the network, preventing potential security breaches inside wired or wireless networks.
HP ProCurve 5300xl Switch series: Virus Throttling technology included on these switches can slow down or stop the spread of even the latest unidentified worms and viruses, preventing them from infecting large numbers of machines and clogging up your network. By recognising and throttling suspect traffic patterns, the technology keeps productivity up and applications working – and adds an extra level of assurance to signature-based anti-virus software installed on your server.

Security management

Security management, the next layer of security, centralises security management to assess overall vulnerability and manages patches and updates carefully.
HP can now identify and remediate known security vulnerabilities on HP ProLiant servers arising from operating system mis-configurations and missing patches that can be exploited by viruses, worms and blended threats. HP has again captured a first in server management by integrating vulnerability and patch management into HP Systems Insight Manager; simplifying and consolidating the proactive identification and resolution of issues that can impact server availability into one central console. The ProLiant Essentials Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack [HP USA | English] is powered by HP’s own Radia patch-management technology and the well-established vulnerability-scanning technology from Harris Corporation.
