Disk-assisted backup and recovery

Backup windows are shrinking and some data must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When your company cannot afford downtime for data backup, HP can help you implement network storage and disk-assisted backup solutions that allow you to backup your data while still making it available.

Virtual tape solutions for enhanced performance

Virtual tape allows you to integrate disk technology to your existing tape-based strategy for increased backup performance. By presenting virtual tapes (i.e., disk systems) to slow clients on your storage area network (SAN), backup jobs that were once performed serially can now be performed in parallel, resulting in shorter backup times.

The latest virtual tape solution from HP is the HP StorageWorks 6000 Virtual Library System (VLS6000) [HP USA | English] , which takes backup and recovery processes to new levels of performance and reliability, integrating seamlessly into existing backup applications and processes, without disruption.

Accelerates backup performance in complex SAN environments
Simplifies management – allocate virtual drives to each SAN host, eliminating physical resource-sharing complexities
Extensively tested in the Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) to ensure it works in the most rigorous environments

Documentation is provided to enable you to configure, design and implement the best data protection solution for your environment. Adding HP OpenView Storage Data Protector [HP USA | English] completes the data protection solution.

Snapshots, clones and mirrors

Snapshots, clones and mirrors are the most common disk-based technology utilised in enterprise data protection solutions today. By leveraging your investments in high-availability disk arrays, backups can be performed with zero interruption to your applications. Furthermore, data can be restored instantly from the saved images on the disk array.

Snaps, Clones and Mirrors can be accomplished either by software or hardware. Typically there is a cost/performance/flexibility trade-off that is made between the two technologies. These solutions are deployed in 24x7 mission-critical environments where zero-downtime backup is required.

Network storage without extensive IT support

The HP ProLiant Data Protection Storage Server [HP USA | English] is a Networked Attached Storage (NAS) solution that delivers quick-to-install, simple-to-manage disk-based backup for Windows file servers. This solution utilizes Microsoft Data Protection Manager to provide near-continuous data protection as well as rapid and reliable file recovery that doesn't require IT intervention; any end user can easily recover lost files. The storage server offers faster recovery than tape, plus efficient and near-continuous protection with hourly backups that don't affect file server availability.

HP Data Protector Express [HP USA | English] can be easily added to the solution to extend the solution beyond Windows file server environments, and to protect the HP ProLiant Data Protection Storage Server.

HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) [HP USA | English] solutions are high-availability, high-performance, easy-to- deploy disk arrays solutions. The MSA doesn't require highly skilled storage professionals or expensive, specialised training as it integrates perfectly into a ProLiant server environment. MSA technology is the right choice for you when data availability is critical, storage capacity shortfalls are causing regular performance problems, and you need a cost-effective solution to manage key infrastructure components without adding staff or training.

The HP MSA 1510i offers increased availability, manageability, and flexibility for data without the complexity and the overhead of managing an entirely new Fibre Channel network infrastructure for a SAN. This MSA features leading-edge technologies like HP-patented RAID 6 technology that allows more than one disk in the server to fail without data loss, and emerging iSCSI technology that makes implementing and managing disk storage as easy as managing your standard Ethernet network. HP StorageWorks MSA 1510i solutions combine the MSA with software and servers to deliver effective and highly-scalable storage so you can proactively plan for compliance, data protection, and security.

Easy transition to SAN solutions

When your business is ready to move to a SAN solution, HP offers a robust set of offerings that make the transition easy. An excellent choice within the MSA family is the HP StorageWorks MSA 1000 Small Business SAN Kit [HP USA | English] , providing you with simplest SAN installation and management you can think of. While it comes with a very attractive price as a fully configured SAN solution for two servers, you can also upgrade it easily with a high-availability upgrade kit for end-to-end redundancy.

Plus, you can rely on the well known MSA reliability and scalability, which goes up to 12.8 terabytes of data storage on up to 42 drives, so you have the storage solution you want without the complexities you don't need.
