HP systems-management software, including HP Systems Insight Manager [HP USA | English] , support four IT essentials: reliable fault monitoring and asset management, rapid provisioning and patching, secure remote administration, and flexible analysis and optimisation. Properly supported, these essentials can simplify server management, increase productivity and reduce the cost of deploying, managing and keeping available multi-server environments.

| Unplanned downtime means lost sales, lost productivity, and major headaches for systems administrators. Many cases of unplanned downtime can be successfully avoided with the proper tools. HP Systems Insight Manager helps you avoid unplanned downtime because it: |

| |
Continually monitors HP servers and proactively alerts administrators of potential or actual system faults that could result in unplanned downtime |
| |
Can be configured to page a technician, launch a script or feed the diagnostic information to HP OpenView products, such as HP OpenView Network Node Manager and HP OpenView Operations |
| |
Can connects to available onboard Lights-Out management processors if a system goes offline to enable remote troubleshooting and corrective action |

| HP Systems Insight Manager can also help you easily discover, identify and catalogue IT infrastructure elements. Armed with this information, IT managers can identify hardware that needs to be upgraded, servers that need to be replaced and servers that need to be reconfigured to support strategic IT initiatives. |

| Configuring servers, installing operating systems and applications, and applying updates that keep hackers at bay are time-consuming tasks that can devour IT resources. They are also tasks fraught with potential for human errors or inconsistency. HP management software takes the pain out of these operations by improving the speed and consistency with which you can deploy and maintain systems: |

| |
Utilise a browser-based, menu-driven interface that leads you step-by-step through the process of installing and optimising an operating system on your servers. |
| |
Take advantage of the HP SmartStart Scripting Toolkit to create standard server configuration scripts customised to your unique environment and optimised for high-volume deployments. |
| |
Turbo charge deployment and streamline server maintenance in data centre environments, where automation and consistency are key to achieving high levels of server uptime, with the optional HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP) and ProLiant Essentials Vulnerability and Patch Management Pack (VPM) [HP USA | English] |

Hardware-based Lights-Out technology for HP ProLiant and Integrity servers allows you use HP Systems Insight Manager to manage your infrastructure from any location independent of the state of the operating system. Selected ProLiant and Integrity servers incorporate an Integrated Lights-Out [HP USA | English] microprocessor to give administrators a means of controlling system power, viewing system configuration and health, and communicating with remote systems via a text-based console. In addition, strong authentication and secure SSL or SSH protect the management processor against unauthorised access. For ProLiant servers without the Integrated Lights-Out processor, the optional Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition II [HP USA | English] and Lights-Out 100 Remote Management Card [HP USA | English] and provide similar remote administration capabilities through a standard PCI card. |

A growing number of companies seek to improve server utilisation and simplify server management by consolidating applications on smaller numbers of high-performance systems. The result? Servers have to perform like never before and systems administrators are expected to do more with the hardware they already have.
HP helps you respond to these challenges with software plug-ins to HP Systems Insight Manager that help optimise server performance and utilisation:
|
| |
HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack (PMP) [HP USA | English] Installs with HP Systems Insight Manager and analyses CPU, memory and disk (including MSA storage) performance as well as drive, networking and PCI configuration to help quickly identify and recommend solutions to potential hardware performance bottlenecks |
| |
HP ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pack (VMM) [HP USA | English] Helps ensure consistent management of physical and virtual assets by take advantage of virtual machine technology from Microsoft and VMware to help boost server utilisation and balance workloads across hardware infrastructure. |
| |
HP ProLiant Essentials Workload Management Pack Safely run multiple applications on a single Windows OS instance, whether the OS is running on a physical server or in a virtual machine |
